Alexandra Palace Ice Rink

Take to the ice all year round. Ice scooter skating aids are available and during term time there are toddler classes and ‘happy hour’ sessions for under-16s and under-fives.

Mon-Fri 11am-1.30pm and 2pm-5.30pm, Sat-Sun 10.30am-12.30pm, 2pm-4.30pm, 8.30pm-11pm. Various prices.

Aqua Splash

Avoid the rain and get soaked indoors instead. Aqua Splash 90-min sessions (ages five-plus) at the London Aquatics Centre feature an inflatable-packed course in the former Olympic training pool. For competent swimmers aged eight-plus, there’s Extreme Aqua Splash in the main pool, with pyramids to scale and high jumps to clear.

BAYSIXTY6 Skate Park

The Westway provides cover for this community-rooted skate park. It offers all-level events for skaters and BMXers aged seven and above, including drop-in beginners’ sessions and group lessons, with equipment available to hire.

Beginners’ sessions Sat and Sun, 10am-noon. £5. Park open daily from noon Mon-Fri, 10am Sat and Sun. Various prices.

Chel-Ski

London’s largest indoor ski centre offers sessions for over-fives and snowboarding lessons for over-eights (three and four-year-olds can take private one-on-one tuition).

Open daily 8am-10pm. Single sesion, £39.95 adult, £34.95 child (age five-15).

Clip ’n’ Climb Chelsea

Climbers aged four-plus can scale the walls at this brightly coloured arena. It’s designed to appeal to all ages and levels of experience, and equipment is provided.

Flip Out

These indoor trampoline parks host ‘Mini Flippers’ sessions for under-fives and parents to jump together. The East Ham branch also offers a Ninja Warrior course for older kids, plus indoor caving, a laser maze and loads more.

There are a range of events at this Olympic cycling centre, including Pedal Up Pump! sessions (for kids aged seven to 12) on an indoor track.

National Centre for Circus Arts

Venue says: “Booking now open for next term’s evening courses: flying trapeze, silks, handstands and more. Take your pick and book quick.”

Run away with the circus! Kids aged eight to 16 can try out skills including tightwire walking, diabolo and trapeze, all under expert guidance.
